The town boasts a mild, year round Mediterranean-type climate. Summer temperatures are usually around 26 degrees Celsius, and winter day time temperatures hover at around 14 degrees Celsius.

Located in South Africa's Western Cape province, George is actually on the southern Cape seaboard at longitude 33.9881 S and latitude 22.4530 E. The town is just 420km from Cape Town, a little more than three hours by car on well-maintained tar roads.
